Audio Interview Podcast – IDIS 195 – Lewis

Creating a successful audio interview podcast consists of skills in two quite different areas: technical and storytelling.

Useful Guides & Links #

The Interview #

  • How will you generate compelling interview questions?
  • Will you share interview questions with interview beforehand?
  • Record more than you think you’ll need (it is probably reasonable to plan to interview someone for 30 minutes)
  • How will you organize your interview?
  • How will you introduce the interview?
  • How will you end the interview?
  • How will you decide what to keep and what to edit out?
  • Will you have sound effects or other music?

The Technical Stuff #

  • How will you capture good quality audio? (Make sure you test out your recording device!)
    • You can fix a lot in editing but it is hard to overcome bad audio quality
  • What tool will you use to edit?
    • Soundtrap Demo
      • Recording/Importing audio
      • Editing
      • Using different tracks
      • Transcription
      • Sharing your project
      • Exporting
  • For a 10 minute interview you might expect 30 minutes to 2 hours between recording and editing.
