When purchasing filament for use with the DKC’s 3D printers, please follow these guidelines:
Required Specifications #
- Material Type: PLA is the standard filament for our printers.
- If your project requires another type of filament (e.g., ABS, PETG, or specialty PLA like wood- or metal-filled), you must get prior approval from the DKC before using it.
- Diameter: 1.75mm
Note: Most spools are sold in 1 kg rolls, but smaller or larger sizes are often available. You’ll want to make sure if you are picking a size outside of the usual 1kg that it fits on our printers spool holders.
Recommended Brands #
You can buy many of these brands straight from the vendor (which we’ve linked to below) or other online marketplaces and resellers (like MatterHackers or Amazon), either is fine.
Other brands may work, but we suggest avoiding unknown brands or the very cheapest options, as low-quality filament often causes printing issues. More expensive specialty filaments are available, but standard PLA from the brands above will meet most project needs.
