About this Class

Working with FXBG clients on digital projects that matter.

Digital Design Workshop is a Spring 2019 class at the University of Mary Washington that will give students the opportunity to work on real-world digital projects with Fredericksburg-area organizations.

Students will work in small groups on projects that grow out of organizations' real-world needs in the areas of Web design, media production, and social media management

Bao Randrianarivelo is a graduating senior at the University of Mary Washington majoring in Communications & Digital Studies and minoring in Business Administration. After graduation, she’s hoping to work in advertisement, digital marketing, or non-profit. In the meantime, she spends her free time planning trips and creating new creative projects that involves things such as photography, videography, designing, blogging, and more.

Casey Spanitz is 22 years old from Virginia Beach and a senior here at Mary Washington. She is currently a communications digital studies major hoping to one day start off by working with a non profit to use all of her skills to help raise awareness about who they are and maybe one day start her own non profit!

Chris Ringham is currently a senior at the University of Mary Washington where he studies Computer Science and Digital Studies. On campus, he works at the Digital Knowledge Center, providing peer tutoring in digital tools such as WordPress, Photoshop, Audacity, and iMovie. Graduating in Spring of 2019, he hopes to find work as a Junior Web Developer.

Claire Smallwood is a Senior at Mary Washington. Currently completing a major in Theatre, and a minor in Digital Studies, they hope to eventually continue working as a Graphic Novelist and Animator as well as work with clients in the community to create meaningful and thought provoking work.

Effie is a Senior here at the university of Mary Washington and a Communications and Digital Studies major. She os very active on campus as the Co-President of the Alter Egos Step Team, Co-Captain of UMW Belly Dance Team, the Publicity chair for the Asian Student Association (ASA), and the Captain of ASA K-Pop. She is also an intern for the James Farmer Multicultural Center.

Elizabeth Finto, originally from Richmond, Virginia, is a Communications and Digital Studies major and will be graduating from the University of Mary Washington in May 2019. She loves to spend time with her family and friends, watching Netflix, creative writing, and to share childhood stories. She also loves to learn and create any chance she gets.

Felekech Getachew is a graduating senior at UMW. She is a Communications and Digital Studies Major. Post graduation, she plans to work in the field of media, in relations to any digital editorial, and advertisement opportunities. After a year of experience, she plans on going to get her Masters for higher education further in her field. Her skills include photo editing, videography, project planning, vlogging, and creative design.

Katie Hartraft is a junior from Chesapeake, VA. Don’t ask her what she wants to do after college unless it involves her owning a bunch of adopted dogs then ask away! She loves creating things whether through writing, drawing, or using different digital mediums and she especially loves when she can put her work to good use!

Matt, is a studying Communications and Digital Studies major at the University of Mary Washington. He enjoys doing photography, cinematography, and chilling out with his friends and family. He is hoping to graduate in the spring of 2020 and is well prepared to do so. He can also whip you up a nice latte or cappuccino whenever you like. If there is a phrase you could describe him by, it would be “spontaneously creative!”

Sandra is a computer science major, with a specialization in data science and website design. As a freelance desktop publisher, she has been creating award-winning digital media for clients since 2014. Sandra hopes to become a lead software developer after her graduation in 2020.

Shane is currently a junior at the University of Mary Washington, where he studies communications and digital studies as a major and data science as a minor. He has four years of audio production experience spanning several industry-standard softwares, including Cubase and Logic Pro, and composes musical scores for advertisements and student films, the most recent being a collaboration with a George Mason University student film group.

Taylor is a junior at the University of Mary Washington and is a double major in Communication & Digital Studies and Theatre with a soon-to-be minor in Arts Administration. She enjoys reading, learning, exploring new places, seeing theatre, and more. She will be graduating in the Spring of 2020 and has plans of pursuing a career in theatre marketing.

Temi is a senior at the University of Mary Washington and a major in Philosophy with a Pre-Law Concentration. For the past four years, she has played for the UMW Women’s Rugby Team, and she has held two leadership positions (Fundraising Chair and President) from 2017-2018. She is currently set to graduate with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Spring 2019.
