You may or may not be familiar with the concept of accessibility. Below is an Accessibility 101 video put together by the Office of Disability Resources (ODR). Please watch it (it is about 23 minutes long) and then respond to questions in the activity. You don’t need to complete the surveys they discuss in the video.
I would also encourage you to take a look through ODR’s Access For All.
Activity
We will come back to accessibility throughout the semester but for now I want you to reflect on the following questions and blog about them:
- What is something new you learned about as it relates to the concept of accessibility?
- In your own words, what is the difference between accommodations and accessibility?
- What kind of accommodations requests do you think you might encounter as a consultant? Feel free to ask one of the current consultants for any experiences they may have had.
- What do you think you should consider in the work that you do and its impact on individuals with disabilities (either directly or indirectly)?
