  • 3D Printing: 4/16/25

    • What do you think of Tinkercad?
      • I have very mixed emotions about Tinkercad. While it is good for beginners, I find that its way of moving objects around can be quite annoying. I think I would prefer to work with blender for most projects, but for more simple projects I would work with Tinkercad for its simplicity. It has its pros and cons. However, I love the naming of files. It is very entertaining(until you have to actually find it).
    • What challenges did you face with 3D Printing?
      • This print is the worst thing I have ever had to deal with. It had made me want to rip my hair out. From things not coloring correctly in Prusa (I had to turn down the plane value of the fill bucket), to the filament breaking, to the printer deciding I have to select the color and me not knowing what it is planning to print, this nametag has been a pain in my butt.
    • Where did you draw inspiration from?
      • I really like bats and vampires so I took inspiration from that. Part of it was just me messing around. Fun Fact: the clouds are actually speech bubbles but I hid the points/

      • yes! yay!

Screenshot of an error screen warning user that the site they are trying to visit is not private.
A screenshot of a page saying "Web Page Blocked! you have tried to access a web page which belongs to a category that is blocked."
    • Search terms you used while googling
      • “how to undo url change dooo”
    • Sites that you found (and whether you were helpful or not)
    • Any steps you took to try to fix it (even if those steps didn’t work)
      • The first thing that I did was look up what the issue was. I made sure to specify DoOO since it may be different for other programs. After I did that, I reopened my admin site from the DoOO dashboard, opening my site as the most basic version of it, without any theme. I then went to general settings and changed the site back to its original domain. This did not work at first because I had forgotten to change the .com to a .net address, so that made me nervous. Once I realized that mistake, I repeated my steps to get back to the admin page and fixed it, correcting my site.
    • Anything else that was part of your experience troubleshooting
      • I found this one fairly simple if I am being honest. I had more of an issue when my site broke the first time by overriding my backup, though I think that was partially due to me being much newer to WordPress as a whole.

Write about what you learned since starting this project and feel free to include any other details on how the project went:

I learned how to green screen with Clipchamp. I had assumed that it would be a mask similar to other editing software, but it was an effect. I think it was a lot of fun to make, and it felt goofy to record the skits with Addy and my friend Cyrus. I also did not realize how big the free audio library was on Clipchamp.

  • 3rd Mock Consultation Reflection

    • What parts of the consultation made you feel confident, and why?
      • I think I did a good job asking for help and trying to find work arounds for scenarios to figure out possible options. I feel like while the solutions were not the best, they did what they needed to as far as wordpress could.
    • Was there a moment during the consultation that felt tricky? How did you handle it?
      • I was stuck for a little bit on some of the formatting and struggled with that. I tried my best to find work arounds, but wordpress isn’t the greatest for formatting.
    • How did you go about figuring out what the student needed and wanted?
      • I initially asked what they needed help with, then followed along each of the things they needed. When I hit a standstill we skipped that and came back to it after.
    • What did you learn about your own consulting style from this experience?
      • I learned that I try to figure out it alongside the student rather than only trying to help them, to give them a visual as well as prevent myself from computer hogging.
    • What would you change in your next consultation based on what you learned this time?
      • I think I would explain the limitations of wordpress more so they can be aware of it when formatting.
  • 2/5/25: Sites @ UMW

    • Share a link to the subsite you created:
    • If you had to describe the difference between Sites@UMW and DoOO to a friend who knew nothing about them (but knew you could build websites) what would you say? Basically what non-jargon way would you simply and quickly describe the difference.
      • The main difference between the two sites is that DoOO has much more customizability, while Sites is less customizable. However, this leads to DoOO being more confusing to learn and time consuming to adjust.
      • You can also take your domain from DoOO while you cannot take it from Sites.
  • 2/4/25: Accessibility

    • What is something new you learned about as it relates to the concept of accessibility?
      • I didn’t really learn anything as most of these were things I assumed most people knew. I experience it directly so I’ve grown used to it.
    • In your own words, what is the difference between accommodations and accessibility?
      • Accessibility is the basic ability to be able go to and participate in events, such as ramps and bus lifts. Accommodations are specific changes for a person in order to make the task at hand more accessible to the individual.
    • What kind of accommodations requests do you think you might encounter as a consultant? Feel free to ask one of the current consultants for any experiences they may have had.
      • I think we will likely encounter finding compatibility with screen readers or with reading of websites.
    • What do you think you should consider in the work that you do and its impact on individuals with disabilities (either directly or indirectly)?
      • As I am actively disabled, I know that it will likely be important for reading websites. It is more difficult to read specific fonts and font sizes, and screen readers cannot read all fonts.
  • 1/22/25 pt2

I ended up completely removing the footer after messing with it. It was easy to understand, but I did not like how it looked to have on my website, so I removed it.

I chose the plugin: Fonts Plugin. I wanted to have more options for fonts on my website, but my theme did not allow for me to change them. I found a plugin that lets me use google fonts and custom fonts, so I am using that.

I am looking forward to teaching people how to use the 3D printers as I really like seeing what people end up making. I think it is a very useful skill that people should use while it is free.

Here is a cat image that was going to go on my blog page, but the page do not support images, so he will go here.

  • 1/22/25

I messed around with the theme a little bit. I chose a more simple one so that I could customize it to my liking more. I did not see that I could not change the font, or I would have probably chosen another theme.

I learned about the difference between blocks themes and non block themes. However I had never touched WordPress before this, so pretty much everything I learned was new. I think it is interesting but also kind of frustrating to work with WordPress.

    I love odd history videos.
