  • Sidebars, plug-ins, and gradients, oh my

I started off by customizing my sidebar to display my recent posts. I wanted to keep my sidebar simple and not to crowded so that is all that is on there for now, however, this might change in the future. Then while looking for a plugin I got distracted and decided to revamp my site by adding a gradient to the background. These two aspects added a new layer to my futuristic look. I wanted to find a plug-in that gave me more creative abilities to create an even more customized site. I stumbled upon one specific to my theme that added a homepage header. I tried it out, adding an artistic photo of a tree and one of my favorite quotes that I though matched my futuristic yet natural vibes. I then did some revising of my header and footer and landed on the current set-up which I am really loving.

There are two appointment types that I am looking forward to, the photo and video editing projects. I have always been interested in these fields and am excited to become more of an expert in them. Overall, I have learned quite a bit in WordPress already, and eager to learn more.

Thanks for keeping up with my journey, and as always, stay creative.

  • My First WordPress Website

After trying out many, many themes, and a recommendation from Adi, I landed on the Astra theme. I found this theme super customizable which is awesome because I was looking forward to the design aspect of this project. Due to the digital nature of this sites purpose, I went for a tech/futuristic look. I included some edited images of the American Dogwood flower to create the black, white, and green color palette. I chose the American Dogwood flower to be the figurehead for this site because I wanted to include nature to contrast with the other tech elements in this design. The American Dogwood is also the national flower of Virginia, so I thought it would be nice to tie that in.

Something new I learned about WordPress is that the themes all have different customizability levels making some more efficient than others. At first, I had a hard time finding a theme that did everything I wanted because I was choosing one based on how I wanted mine to look in the end rather than one that provided a good base.

A fun fact about me is that I was a competitive gymnast for 7 years. So, for my YouTube video to embed I choose my childhood favorite gymnast Shawn Johnson’s 2008 Olympics Qualifying Balance Beam routine. I genuinely think it is one of the best beam routines of all time so I would recommend watching!

Thanks for tuning in to my blog, check back in soon for a new update. And as always, stay creative.
