  • Troubleshooting!

Back at it again with the DKC training blog posts! This week we learned about troubleshooting.

What my site looked like after I changed the URL
How I fixed it (more explaining below)

So, my first thing that I did was go to DoOO to see if I could access my site from the back end. When I did that, it took me to the page on the right, which I recognized as just the side bar of the WordPress back page. I went down to the bottom where it said “General Settings” and it showed the broken URL! I changed it back to it’s OG site name and it fixed 🙂

I didn’t end up doing any googling, cause I was originally just going to see if WordPress could tell me what the problem was but it turned out the solution was there anyway! I was like… 5 steps ahead of WordPress the whole time!

  • Forth Post!

    Things I’ve Learned!

    • How important alt text is.
    • How important the different headings and blocks are for readers.
    • How I have to make sure that my links are descriptive instead of just click here! or something

What I Still Have Questions About!

    • What is the difference between alt text and just typing out what is in the photo?
    • Is there a specific alt reader/accessibility reader for WordPress/DoOO or is it just the standard one?
  • Third Post!

    Subsite

    • Visit my subsite on Sites@UMW here!

Sites@UMW vs Domain of ones own

    • Sites@UMW is WordPress lite. Sites@UMW allows you to make a sort of subdomain that has preinstalled themes and plugins that you can use. Domain of Ones Own (DoOO) allows you more creativity and control over your sites, but it’s harder to navigate.
  • Second Post!

    PLUGINS!

    • The main plugin I added to my WordPress is Stackables! It basically added a whole new set of blocks that I can add to pages and blog posts (and I’m sure other things, but I haven’t done enough with it)
    • You can look at the page of all the Stackable options here!

    appointment type!

    • The appointment type that I’m most excited to learn about is 3D printing because (shocker) I think it’s cool and I wanna learn how to use it!
