  • A toe-dip into 3-D printing!

    woo-wee, that was hard!

This was such a fun and channeling project to do! I have never worked in any 3D modeling software or programs. I am an illustrator, I normally work with 2D elements so it being digital AND 3D was crazy. Luckily, Tinkercad is programmed with beginners in mind and became a little easier over time. The largest challenge I had was getting the holes right in my fishes face, the controls can be a little finicky. As I am in the throws of my fish obsession, the choice to have a fish shaped name tag felt the most natural and doable! I hope to make a better looking one in Fall 2024! I can’t wait to see everyone else’s.

WOW! This project was so much fun but also a doozy! I have learned so much from doing this project. In the beginning, I decided (for whatever reason) I wanted to go a more plot-driven route with the video. However, my ambitions got the best of me and halfway through the project I realized that it will be far too long and I had to make some drastic cuts. What we are left with now is an amalgamation of the clips I cobbled together, being held together with dramatics and sound effects. I recorded some of my own sounds to add to the video as well as source others from royalty-free websites. The biggest critique from my peers was that there were not enough editing and sound effect bits, so I doubled them and tried my hand at comedic timing. Essentially I “committed to the bit”. I used Canva as the editor because after the small video editing assignment, I wanted to test the limits of Canva. Overall a refreshing and enriching learning experince, I can’t wait for the next big project! Can’t wait to see everyone else’s.

  • Sites @ UMW Project

I was FINALLY able to create my fictions site for this project and I’m really stoked about it!

    The link is : https://numberoneunicornfan.umwsites.net

The difference between Sites @ UMW and Domain Of Ones Own is customization and user experience. Sites was much easier to get up and running, in total it took me around 45 mins to make the website, as oppose to several shifts it took me with DoOO. As mentioned in last week’s training meeting, there was far less customization but also less room for error. Sites @ UMW is what most people THINK website building is like, but DoOO is the full kit and caboodle, you can customize and edit nearly anything on your website, but that can also lead to it crashing or messing something else on your website.

  • ADC Video Project

What a fun project! This will be my first post regarding the top secret assignment for the fictitious A.D.C. All new posts about this project will be put into the DKC to ADC folder. 🙂 I learned so much through this process! A big thing that I learned was how to work the Rhode microphones. After I had finished recording I realized that the microphones were not recording and it was really annoying!! I will always double check now. I am excited for everyone to see the video!

  • Accessibility in Word Press

I learned A LOT through this exercise in optimizing our websites. I didn’t realize nor admittedly gave much thought to alternative and descriptive text. I read the article and installed the plug-in and realized just how much important work I had ahead of me. I had several errors come up, the most popular being that I was using a lot of gifs which can mess with the screen reader, as well as a few “improper use of link” errors. I need to do more research to figure out how to remedy it, but as for now I moved a quote I overlayed on top of a gif to the side bar so the screen reader would be less confused, I also added more black text as opposed to colored so its easier to read. As I keep building and improving this website I will continue to factor accessibility into my projects and changes.
