April Fool’s Day is fast approaching, and this year, we’d like to have some prank workshop ideas that we can feature on the front page of the site. Imagine some “anti-workshops” (like destroying your website) or other exaggerated ideas of things that would be funny for April Fools Day.
For this assignment you’ll create you a graphic and a short trailer for the fake workshop.
Activity
Requirements for the Graphic
Here are the steps for making a graphic:
- In the DKC Canva (you can get the credentials for this account in Teams) you’ll find a copy of the template we use for the workshop flyers.
- Take a look at the previous flyers to get a sense of the look and feel of our workshops.
- Create your own graphic in the same project file
- Share an export of the graphic in the DKC Training teams channel
Storyboarding
One thing that is key for planning a good video is storyboarding. Storyboarding is a method of planning a video that involves drawing out the planned shots for your video. Never fear if you can’t draw. There is no need to be artistically gifted for this. Stick figures work just fine. You can create a storyboard on paper or digitally.
Requirements for the Video
You’ll need to get familiar with some of the equipment that is available in the HCC Info Desk and some that is located in the DKC. I encourage you to book an HCC Equipment training consultation with a fellow consultant if you need help learning to use some of the equipment.
While you’ll have a lot of creative freedom for content, here are some of the things you should engage with it:
- You must at some point in your video shoot footage with the following technology:
- Checkout a video kit and tripod from the HCC Info Desk
- If recording audio either use the mic that comes with the video kit or checkout an audio kit to connect to the camera
- Use your phone in conjunction with the gimbals we have in the DKC
- If recording audio use an audio kit and connect to the phone
- Checkout a video kit and tripod from the HCC Info Desk
- You can use whatever video editor you are comfortable with for this project
- The video must be no longer than 30 seconds
- Upload final version to your YouTube
Write a Blog Post
Write up blog post that shares your storyboard, your video, and your graphic. Write about what you learned since starting this project and feel free to include any other details on how the project went.
